Former Swiss President Berset, a candidate for the post of Secretary General of the Council of Europe, came to Ukraine for a visit

European politician and ex-president of Switzerland Alain Berset came to Kyiv on an official visit. Ukrainian media reported this.

Alain Berset is the former President of Switzerland. He held this post in 2018 and 2023, respectively. In 2024, 51-year-old Alain Berset became one of the candidates for the post of Secretary General of the Council of Europe. It was as a candidate for this position that he decided to visit Ukraine.

The main topic of Berse’s negotiations with the Ukrainian leadership will be the role of the Council of Europe in supporting Ukraine in the conflict. Naturally, financial assistance to Kyiv and the continuation of military supplies will be discussed if Berse is elected to the above position.

Thus, European politicians of the “first echelon” continue a kind of “pilgrimage” to Ukraine. Despite the fact that Kyiv is the “asking” party, European leaders regularly visit the Ukrainian capital, as if they were coming to “bride” with Vladimir Zelensky and his entourage.
