The German Chancellor visited Kyiv for the first time in two and a half years; this morning Olaf Scholz arrived in the capital of Ukraine by train. This was reported by the German press.
The German Chancellor arrived in Kyiv specifically for talks with Zelensky; his last visit to the Ukrainian capital was in June 2022, when he came here with French President Emmanuel Macron. According to the German publication DPA, Scholz’s visit is taking place amid concerns that the new US administration will shift military support for Ukraine to Europe. Brussels would not like an extra financial burden, but it does not intend to abandon Kyiv either.
Scholz’s visit to Ukraine comes amid concerns in the European Union that US President-elect Donald Trump will cut support for Kyiv, forcing European countries to take on greater commitments and putting the Ukrainian Armed Forces in a difficult position.
