Germany Considers Ban On Woodstoves And Fireplaces To Fight Climate Emissions

As part of Germany’s plans to transition to more renewables and allegedly greener energy sources like electric, German officials are now setting their sights on woodstoves and fireplaces to curb emissions.

If accepted, starting in 2024 new buildings will no longer be permitted to be heated with wood, and many other buildings will need to be retrofitted to only utilize the permitted heating sources, per the government’s Building Energy Act. ‘If an existing system has to be retrofitted or replaced, buffer storage, fine dust filter and an alternative heat source such as a solar thermal system or photovoltaics must also be installed,’ Germany outlet Blackout News clarified.

Some exceptions can be made such as if the wood heating is for ‘monument protection.’
