The proposed Golden Dome for America missile defense system demands more than bold ideas — it requires a team with a track record of delivering on no-fail missions and the ability to harness innovation across the U.S. commercial, technology, and defense industries. The stakes are high and the margin for error is zero. It’s essential to leverage proven technology that can save lives now, while investing in innovation that can ensure a system able to outpace the threats of the future.
Fortunately, many of the most critical elements of a future Golden Dome system exist, are ready to deploy, and have been combat-proven. The Administration and Congress can ensure the fastest delivery possible of this critical system in two key ways. First, they should leverage the best of the defense industry’s deep knowledge base and experience to ensure the most effective, existing solutions form the foundation of Golden Dome. Second, they should prioritize investment in gap technologies that will harden Golden Dome for future phases as threats evolve.
One of the most critical components of Golden Dome will be its command and control (C2) systems, which serve as the “brains” of the operation, making split-second decisions to protect the homeland. Effective C2 systems are not only essential for integrating different platforms but also for leveraging the best of American technologies across industries. Leading U.S. commercial technology companies are advancing AI capabilities at breakneck speed, presenting a once-in-a-generation opportunity for defense companies and the tech sector to combine the most advanced American technologies with the know-how to get new capabilities out of the lab and into the field with rigor. By coupling the speed of innovation with iron-clad dependability, we can architect Golden Dome C2 systems that keep pace with the speed of American ingenuity…
