A gunman who opened fire on a crowd of people on the southwest side of Fort Worth early Monday morning is dead after bystanders stoned him to death with gardening stones.
The incident occurred at about 12:50 a.m. on July 26 in the 5600-block of Shiloh Drive, near Bryant Irvin Road and the Chisholm Trail Parkway in the Como neighborhood, KDFW reported.
Investigators said there was a disturbance that became a fight between two groups of people who knew each other, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Then a man in one of the groups started shooting.
The crowd defended themselves by picking up nearby gardening stones and hurling them at the gunman, KDFW reported.
The gunman was stoned to death, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
He and one of the people he had shot were pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other gunshot victims were treated for wounds at nearby hospitals, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Police said one of those victims was in critical condition.
The other two gunshot victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Dee Edwards, who lives in the neighborhood where the incident occurred, said she heard noises and looked outside to see people fighting near her house.
Then Edwards said she took a closer look, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
âI peeked out and looked, I saw two bodies in my driveway,â she said.
Edwards said that was when she called the police.
Debra Mobley, who lives nearby, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that she didnât hear the gunshots but was woken up by the police lights.
âFirst there was one light, then the whole street was filled with police lights,â Mobley described the scene. âThis is a quiet street. Nothing like this happens on this street. Itâs ridiculous.â
She said the family in the home where the shooting occurred has only lived there for about a year, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
âOn weekends they play the music really loud,â Mobley said. âOne of my neighbors had to go down there and tell them to turn it down.â
Police have not yet released the name of the gunman or any of the gunshot victims, KDFW reported.
