HBO Max Adds Trigger Warning Before ‘Blazing Saddles’ to Provide ‘Proper Social Context’

By Shane Trejo

Streaming video service HBO Max has placed a trigger warning before the classic comedy Blazing Saddles, in order to provide “proper social context” to the movie rife with politically incorrect dialogue.

Jacqueline Stewart, a University of Chicago cinema and media studies professor, gives the intro to the movie. She also gives a similar introduction before Gone With The Wind, another movie targeted by left-wing cancel culture in recent years.

Stewart said that “as the storyline implies the issue of race is front and center in Blazing Saddles. And racist language and attitudes pervade the film. But those attitudes are espoused by characters who are portrayed here as explicitly small-minded, ignorant bigots. The real, and much more enlightened perspective, is provided by the main characters played by Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder.”

The 1974 comedy film was a spoof of a Western containing many scenes depicting racial and stereotypical jokes with racial epithets as the punchline.
