Winter storms sweeping across the United States are disrupting travel for vacationers ahead of 2024’s rare alignment of Christmas Day and the first night of Hanukkah, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
An Alberta clipper system is driving snow and frigid temperatures through the Great Lakes region and the Northeast, potentially snarling holiday travel, the NWS reported. The system threatens to impact the Interstate 95 corridor, while lake-effect snow could create hazardous driving conditions between western New York and northeast Ohio.
Forecasters predict a white Christmas for parts of the Northeast, with inland areas expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow by Christmas Eve. Major thoroughfares, including I-95, are likely to remain clear, according to the agency.
