IBM collaborated with the All-England Lawn Tennis Club, the Wimbledon tournament’s parent organization, to create an AI that offers commentary, context, and analysis of the matches.
Using IBM’s Watson AI engine, the digital commentator will analyze over 100,000 data points from every shot each player makes, according to IBM.
The AI also will offer “draw analysis,” forecasting each player’s chances of making it to the finals, based on which opponents they face next and the player’s performance so far.
This unique insight enables tennis fans to uncover anomalies and potential surprises in the singles draw that may not be evident solely by considering the players’ rankings.

The technology will “help fans gain even more insight into the singles draw and access commentary on a wider variety of matches through our match highlights videos,” Usama Al-Qassab, the tennis club’s marketing director, said in announcing the new guest in the press booth…
