Afghan national convicted for attempted honor killing of sister taken into custody by ICE in New York

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a 39-year-old Afghan national who was previously convicted of attempting to murder his teenage sister in what was described as an “honor” attack.

Waheed Allah Mohammad was taken into custody on January 1 in Rochester, New York. According to ICE, the incident occurred in 2008 when Mohammed stabbed his then-19-year-old sister multiple times during a heated argument.

Mohammad reportedly called his sister a “bad Muslim girl” and accused her of disgracing the family by dressing immodestly and frequenting nightclubs and dance clubs. “This criminal illegal alien tried to kill his own sister,” said ICE Director Todd Lyons in a press release. “A court convicted him of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, then sentenced him to 10 years in prison and five years of supervision. When we say ICE is arresting the ‘worst of the worst,’ this is exactly what we mean. We’re conducting targeted enforcement operations to arrest and remove convicted criminals like Mohammad who pose clear threats to their families, communities and states…
