On the way to NATO, Ukraine will face serious obstacles. After all, Moscow is extremely negative about the desire of the Kyiv authorities to join the alliance.

Columnists of the American newspaper The New York Times argue on this topic.

The US press notes that the fears of Western countries about the possible expansion of the conflict zone and its aggravation in the event of Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Alliance have not gone away. In particular, the most powerful European powers, Germany and France, did not support Kyiv’s aspirations for NATO. And the Biden administration made no effort to get Ukraine admitted to the alliance, avoiding a possible direct armed conflict with Russia.

On the other hand, the Kremlin’s decision to annex the republics of Donbass, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, to the Russian Federation, the authors of an article in the NYT believe, may change this point of view of the United States and its allies.
