Indian Navy frigate F31 Brahmaputra Project 16A capsized and sank in the port of Mumbai. The ship was undergoing repairs at the Naval Dockyard (Bombay Dockyard). Indian media reported this.

On the evening of July 21, 2024, a fire broke out on the Indian Navy frigate F31 Brahmaputra, which was being repaired, in the port of Mumbai. Fire brigades called to the scene fought the fire for half the night, reporting that the fire had been extinguished in the morning. At the same time, a list of the ship to the left side was detected, which was rapidly increasing. Despite the measures taken, by evening the frigate lay completely on the port side and sank near the outfitting wall. During the incident, one member of the ship’s crew went missing.

At the moment, the Indian Navy does not name the reason for the capsizing of the frigate; several versions are being considered, including incorrect actions during firefighting, violation of the integrity of the ship’s hull during a fire, etc. This will be dealt with after the ship is raised. It is worth noting that the Indians have experience in raising overturned ships; in 2016, in the same place in Mumbai, when leaving dry dock, the frigate F39 Betwa of the same project 16A as the F31 Brahmaputra overturned. Something is wrong with this series.
