Reflecting again on conversations with my father: he once said, “Celia, do you know there are Orthodox Jews who oppose the state of Israel!?”
I thought that sounded bizarre, at the time.
Now I have a chance to hear their case, which is a case for the Jewish faith, which as they say opposes murder and theft—AND prohibits…Jews having a “homeland?” I had no idea.
It’s a religious case against secular state. So let’s at least not accuse “religious people” of being the problem here.
When we says “Jews,” but we are referring to Israelis, and/or supporters of Israel, we mean “Zionists.” Religious (actual) Jews have been conflated with secular Zionists for a long time. I vaguely knew this before but it’s becoming more clear now…
