
Lega Serie A, the leading soccer league in Italy, has announced they plan to retrofit their stadiums with facial recognition tech, on the claims that it would be designed to “combat racism.”
CEO Luigi De Siervo revealed these plans last week after one player was apparently ‘racially abused’ during an away game, The Stadium Business reported. The home team Udinese announced that following week after the game that a fan has banned from watching the matches.
Thus, this is the official reason why this soccer league will now be implementing facial recognition for attendance.
