Joy Ann Reid says ‘Antifa are just anti-fascists’ amidst criminal charges in Portland

By  Sara A. Carter

Joy Ann Reid responded Thursday to Rep. Louie Gohmert’s (R-TX) claims that Capitol Police were anticipating a huge showing of Antifa members on Jan 6th, saying ‘Antifa are just anti-fascists.” This comes days after Oregon’s Multnomah County District Attorney announced criminal charges against over two dozen Antifa members.

Gohmert claimed “that there was going to be an influx of Antifa,” Reid reported. She spoke in a sarcastic tone, letting it known that she didn’t believe Gohmert’s claims. “They claimed [Antifa members] were basically the devil,” Reid said. “They’re just anti-fascist. They don’t show up anywhere.”

Meanwhile, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office officially announced charges against Antifa rioters in Portland just Wednesday following several grand jury indictments. The criminal charges included felony riot and criminal mischief. One person was also arrested for attacking reporter Andy Ngô over Memorial Day weekend.

Reid as been with MSNBC since 2014.
