A federal judge ruled on Wednesday that the Trump administration cannot prevent migrants who cross the southern border from making asylum claims.
Judge Randolph Moss, an Obama appointee, held that the president does not have “unilateral authority to limit the rights of aliens present in the United States to apply for asylum” as he did in a day-one proclamation declaring an “invasion” at the southern border.
“The Court recognizes that the Executive Branch faces enormous challenges in preventing and deterring unlawful entry into the United States and in adjudicating the overwhelming backlog of asylum claims of those who have entered the country,” Moss wrote in the 128-page ruling…
