The fear that migrants are being converted into voters appears to be gaining some credence, at least in Los Angeles County where officials report the number of migrants speedily obtaining citizenship, and by extension voting power, is occurring at the “fasting speed in a decade.”
The Western Journal reported on “a wave of new U.S. citizens” taking their oaths to America at naturalization ceremonies throughout L.A., a wave which the Biden administration excuses as a backlog predating the president’s time in office. Restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to the delay in new citizenships as well, they added. “Immigration officials said the timing is not driven by the election or any political agenda,” the L.A. Times wrote during a recent naturalization ceremony in Riverside, California.
The muscle power of new voters, however, was present throughout the process. “American flags lined the stage as messages conveying the immigrants’ new power played on a large screen,” the outlet noted. One message adoring a wall read, “Today, I am an American. Today, I am a citizen of the country I serve. Today, I can register to vote.”
