Larry Hogan eschews the pro-life label

For eight years, Maryland’s Larry Hogan had a good excuse not to talk abortion: He was the Republican governor of a very liberal state with a Democratic supermajority in the legislature.

Abortion was legal and subsidized in Maryland when Hogan first ran for governor, and he promised, “Nothing will change on abortion with me as governor.” Hogan tried to keep that promise: He never took steps to protect the unborn of Maryland, and he vetoed legislation to expand abortion.

It’s different, now. As of noon Wednesday, Hogan is no longer governor of a deep blue state. He’s unemployed, and actively considering a run for president in 2024.
