Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been brought to a New York court. This refers to the Manhattan court where formal charges will be filed against the Venezuelan leader and his wife, who were kidnapped by US special forces.

According to preliminary reports, US prosecutors are charging Maduro with “organizing a criminal organization—a drug cartel,” “illegal enrichment through drug trafficking,” and “terrorism.” If all the sentences stipulated by the aforementioned articles of the US criminal code are added up, Nicolás Maduro faces up to three life sentences. His wife faces a minimum of 18 years in prison for “complicity.”

It’s noteworthy that Nicolás Maduro’s interests in court will be represented by Washington-based attorney Barry Pollack. Pollack is known for his legal efforts leading to the release of Julian Assange. Pollack has a reputation as one of the most effective attorneys in the United States.
