A man was freed Tuesday after spending 37 years in prison in a case in which detectives allegedly arranged sex and drugs for a key witness.
Willie Stokes, 61, was freed from a Pennsylvania state prison near Philadelphia after being convicted of murder in 1984 following an investigation by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasnerâs office which found Stokes did not receive due process, CBS 3Â reported. A federal court threw out Stokesâ conviction last month.
âToday is a tremendous day. Weâre all very thankful,â Stokesâ lawyer, Michael Diamondstein, told the Associated Press. âHowever, itâs also a sad day, because it reminds us of how lawless, unfair and unjust Philadelphia law enforcement was for so long.â…
