Mexican Cartels are Wielding Anti-Tank Rocket Launchers

Mexico has been mired by a nearly two-decade war against drug cartels. Many of these criminal entities have carved out de facto statelets in the country as they have overpowered Mexican authorities.

Mexican drug cartels have gained notoriety for illegally acquiring modern military gear from nations of the Collective West. A recent incident highlighted this alarming trend.

On May 31, 2023,  Mexican Television channel Milenio posted an article entitled “Mexican cartels prepare for a war; they have military grade ROCKET LAUNCHER” that shows a video of a Gulf Cartel (Cartel Del Golfo, CDG) member carrying a “military-grade grenade launcher during a checkpoint in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.”

Milenio’s host Azucena Uresti highlighted that the rocket launcher is a Raytheon-produced FGM-148 Javelin which has been sent to Ukraine in the effort to bleed Russia dry. She observed that the rocket launcher’s price on the black market can range from $20,000 to $60,000…
