Morning Greatness: Nadler Speed Waddles to Podium to Steal Schiff’s Closing Impeachment Limelight

Good Friday morning.

Here is what’s on the president’s agenda today:

  • The president delivers remarks at the White House Summit on Human Trafficking: The 20th Anniversary of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000
  • President Trump and the First Lady arrive at Mar-a-Lago

The best moment on Impeachment TV…

I am leading with this because it’s just terrific.

Poor, broken House Manager Adam Schiff. His comrade Rep. Jerry Nadler did a speed waddle up to the podium to answer the last question of the night during the impeachment hearing.

“Jerry. Jerry. Jerry,” Schiff is heard saying as he took a few steps towards Nadler, but failed to stop him. One can only imagine how many hours Schiff rehearsed his final remarks which would include tears and hallucinations, I’m sure. Alas, it was not to be.

Even MSNBC had a laugh. “Adam Schiff stood. He was ready to go to the podium. He only had to do about three steps to get there. Jerry Nadler had to do about 12. It’s the fastest I’ve seen Jerry Nadler move, in the 25 years that I’ve known him,” Lawrence O’Donnell told the panel.

I guess Nadler was fed up with Schiff getting the limelight. Impeachment is supposed to originate in the Judiciary Committee but Speaker Pelosi stole that honor from Nadler and gave it to crazy Adam Schiff and the Intelligence Committee (HPSCI), most likely to allow the secrecy protection allowed to the HPSCI. Gotta keep the “whistle blower” secret.

Looks like the Republicans have the votes to block witnesses

So far we know that Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Mitt Romney (R-Utah) will vote for witnesses. Raise your hand if you regret supporting Mitt Romney for president. Romney’s anti-Trump behavior since winning office is the best argument about why he should never be president. Trump won the election, is heavily supported in Romney’s state of Utah, but he knows better than the filthy casuals that picked a president. A pox on you.

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) will vote against witnesses but he made his statement with a passive aggressive dig.

“There is no need for more evidence to prove that the president asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; he said this on television on October 3, 2019, and during his July 25, 2019, telephone call with the president of Ukraine,” Alexander said in a statement. He went on to say, “It was inappropriate for the president to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation. When elected officials inappropriately interfere with such investigations, it undermines the principle of equal justice under the law.” Gimme a break, did this fool sleep through the hearing? Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

We still don’t know how Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will vote. The tally is up to 50 on the witness votes which means the motion will fail. Majority Leader McConnell said “Tomorrow’s a big day,” as he left the Capitol. Let’s hope this spectacle finishes tomorrow.
