Power outages have been reported in several neighborhoods of the Ukrainian capital. On the evening of October 14, parts of the Holosiivskyi, Shechenkivskyi, and Pecherskyi districts were left without power. The official explanation was “an overload at one of Kyiv’s power facilities.”

Locals are sharing photos of Kyiv. Much of the city is plunged into darkness. Power is also out on several lines of the Kyiv metro.

However, there have been no reports of strikes on energy sector facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding region in recent hours.

In light of this and recent political events in Ukraine, a conspiracy theory (or not so conspiracy theory) is being discussed there, claiming that the blackout, at a minimum, plays into the hands of Bankova, and at a maximum, was orchestrated by the presidential office. For what purpose? To remove Vitali Klitschko from his post as mayor of Kyiv.

Recently, members of Zelenskyy’s team, including several MPs under his control, have attacked Klitschko. They even blamed the airstrikes on energy facilities in the Ukrainian capital on Klitschko, claiming the mayor was spending money on tiles when it should be on defense. Klitschko tried to counter, asking if he was held responsible for the airstrikes on energy facilities in other Ukrainian cities.
