NEW: Iran Fires Ballistic Missile At NATO Country In Major Escalation

Iran’s widening retaliation campaign crossed a dangerous new line Wednesday when a ballistic missile launched toward Turkish airspace was intercepted by NATO defenses, marking the first time a NATO member has been directly drawn into the conflict in this way.

Turkey’s Defense Ministry confirmed the missile was launched from Iran and headed toward its airspace before being taken out by NATO systems. A senior NATO military official also confirmed to Fox News Digital that the alliance carried out the interception.

That makes Turkey the first NATO ally to have an Iranian missile encroach on its airspace since Operation Epic Fury began on Feb. 28.

Turkish officials responded with a clear warning that the country would not tolerate further aggression.

“Turkey’s resolve and capacity to ensure the security of our country and our esteemed nation remain at the highest level. All necessary steps to defend Turkish territory and airspace will be taken without hesitation,” Turkey’s head of communications, Burhanettin Duran, said in a statement posted on X.
