
The debate over so-called “public” broadcasting should be focused on its fundamental unfairness toward Republicans and undisguised loathing of conservatives. PBS and NPR and their Democrat allies want this fight to be over phony issues like Elmo and emergency alerts. They can’t deny how flagrantly they push a leftist agenda, so they have to change the subject.
One reason Republicans have never had the intestinal fortitude to defund the “public” networks is their fear of the private networks on the Left. They’ve feared a Big Bird bombing from ABC, CBS, and NBC, not just PBS. They worried about The New York Times and The Washington Post, all the “prestige media.” Who wants to pick a fight with the entire liberal media? Then along came Trump.
Once again on Sunday, CBS Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan went to bat for PBS with so much enthusiasm you’d joke she’s getting free Elmo dolls under the table. The PBS-DNC complex has pounced on the talking point that NPR and PBS are somehow essential for emergency alerts. Brennan hinted people would die if PBS/NPR funding was cut. She asked Sen. Rand Paul: “We looked and in your state of Kentucky, public broadcasters provide critical emergency warnings for the government if there’s a storm, for example. Are you concerned that these kind of cuts are going to endanger people?”
