Newsom Asks Congress for $40B in Fire Relief Without Oversight Just After Signing $50M to Fight MAGA Agenda

California Governor Gavin Newsom has formally requested $40 billion in federal disaster relief from Congress, just two weeks after authorizing $50 million in state spending to challenge Trump administration policies. 

The funding request, outlined in a 14-page letter to congressional leaders, seeks assistance for wildfire recovery efforts in Los Angeles and other affected areas.

Newsom’s funding plea follows a series of destructive fires, including the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, which left significant damage across the state.
