Off-Duty Firefighter Murders Fire Engineer, Shoots Fire Captain At Station

Santa Clarita, CA – A Los Angeles County firefighter engineer and a fire captain were shot by an off-duty firefighter Tuesday.

The attack occurred at Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 81 located in the 8700-block of Sierra Highway shortly before 11 a.m. on June 1, KTTV reported.

The firefighter engineer was fatally shot, and the fire captain is in critical condition.

The captain was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia.

The suspect is believe to be an off-duty firefighter who fled the scene to his residence, according to NBC News.

Investigators were searching for a suspect in a white Toyota pickup, and ended up honing in on a residence located in the 2600-block of Bent Spur Drive in Acton, KTTV reported.

Shortly after they arrived, a structure fire erupted.

Authorities say that the suspect fatally shot himself after starting the fire.

The motive for the attack is unknown.

“It is with heavy hearts that the LACoFD confirms that a tragic shooting occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. today at FS 81 in Agua Dulce,” the Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted. “The Dept. is still in the process of gathering additional information & are cooperating with law enf. throughout this ongoing incident.”
