Olive Oil: Why It’s Healthier Than Other Cooking Oils

It’s common advice for people watching their waistlines or looking to eat healthier to beware of the amount of oil they use while cooking. But that doesn’t mean we should cut oil entirely from our diet. This is because extra virgin olive oil in particular can have many benefits for our health.

Numerous studies have shown that consuming olive oil – in particular extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) – can have many different benefits for our health. For example, the Spanish Predimed study (the largest randomised control trial ever conducted on the Mediterranean diet) showed that women who ate a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra virgin olive oil had a 62% lower risk of breast cancer compared to women who were advised to eat a low fat diet.

Experts who have since examined multiple scientific studies looking at the Mediterranean diet and its effect on chronic diseases conclude that a primary reason the diet protects against breast cancer is because of EVOO. There’s also evidence that EVOO may protect against type 2 diabetes and possibly even Alzheimer’s disease.

    Note to who ever and no one will read it save if God wants them to .
    Olive oil is not as good for you as one would think .. I did for a long time .
    I have chronic disease . The Dr’s don’t know .. I do now . I figured it out . BUT .., Olive oil . I was listening To Coast to Coast Am on my Ipod … just like I do with Caravan 2 Midnight … that Dr Wallach was on – big on nutrition and pumping all his vitamins – OK fine I do find good info from him from time to time . On this show he said ALL oils processed with heat go rancid and are bad for you . OK ? Is olive oil included in that ? Didn’t think so . So I started looking around the the net . I found some more info from Wallach and he said that olive oil was included in that and should not be used . OK ? So I quit using it . I was using it a lot in place of butter . I have psoriasis . At that time it was a lot worse . I quit olive oil . In a month my psoriasis decrease by 40% surface area . I changed nothing in my diet or supplements. I would say some where around 1/2 sq ft or more … 6 by 6 inch .. yeah at least really more than that. . SO for me . Olive oil is not a good thing .
