On the anniversary of Kristallnacht, Jews are once again under attack in Europe

On the night of November 9 1938 the Nazis launched a pogrom against Jewish people in Germany. Using the assassination of German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by a German Jewish refugee in Paris as a pretext for their actions, they unleashed a night of unprecedented violence.

Synagogues across the country were set alight, Jewish shops were looted, the windows of Jewish properties were smashed. The streets were covered in so much debris that the night gained the name Kristallnacht, the night of broken glass. Jewish people in the streets were beaten, thousands of Jewish men were snatched from their homes and taken to camps. 91 Jews were murdered.
