Joe Biden ran for president four years too late.
Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand the former Vice President’s strategic decision to avoid squaring off against the Clinton’s infamous political machine. Eight years with Barack Obama offered Biden a level of immunity from media scrutiny and inquiry that allowed him to resurrect a political legacy to that point marked by poor decisions, brazen ideological demagoguery, and racially tinged incidents that would have left him flouted and forgotten.
Serving with Obama brought Joe Biden to the cultural cool-kid table for the first time in his career. Squandering that by willfully facing off against the notorious Clinton character assassination apparatus was likely less than enticing.
Still, had he survived it, Biden would have been well-positioned to carry portions of the electorate that abandoned Hillary’s corruption, thus winning the presidency in 2016.
But he didn’t.
And it now seems beyond dispute that regardless of what happens on November 3rd of this year, Joe Biden will never be President of the United States. Let me be clear about what I mean, lest anybody mistake this for a brash political prophecy. Remember, this was Joe Biden four years ago:

I’ve been wishing for months that the Democrats would choose humanity and withdraw Biden from the race. I understand the turmoil that puts them in, but with the convention still looming, the party apparatus is fully equipped to deal with such unexpected circumstances. Unfortunately, it’s become clear that they are more than willing to continue subjecting their presumptive nominee to elder abuse, using him as a campaign puppet – a move that injures Biden, deceives Americans, and makes a mockery of the system.
I’ve also been hoping that the media would, even if motivated out of fear of a Trump re-election victory, push the party they routinely aid and abet in advancing their shared ideological agenda into ending the phony charade regarding Biden’s candidacy. But to this point, they have been unwilling.
Which means it is up to the rest of us to refuse to play the game. Once Joe Biden has selected his vice-presidential nominee, rational voters will have to treat her as the de facto nominee. She must be pushed to answer the big questions, she must respond to the tough challenges, and she must endure the deep and unrelenting electoral vetting that comes during a presidential campaign.
Because if the media and their Democrat allies are finally successful in unseating Donald Trump, she will be the President of the United States, not Joe Biden.
