In Paris, mass protests of citizens who do not agree with the pension reform in France continue. According to Parisian law enforcers, on Thursday, March 16, about 48 people took part in the rallies, but trade union representatives name an order of magnitude larger number – more than 300.

The protests ended with a violent crackdown on citizens by the police, as well as arson of parked cars and smashing shop windows. Law enforcement officers used water cannons and tear gas against the protesters.

Despite mass protests from citizens, representatives of France’s top political leadership still insist on a reform to increase the retirement age, which was adopted, contrary to the current legislation in the country, bypassing the voting procedure in parliament.

Mass protest rallies were held in almost all major cities of the country. French trade unions have scheduled another general demonstration on March 23 against raising the retirement age.
