Police reveal two prior run-ins with alleged Highland Park shooter

by Abigail Adcox

The suspected gunman in the deadly shooting at an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois, had prior contact with law enforcement, police said Tuesday.

Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, 21, had two previous encounters with police in Highland Park, with the most recent being in September 2019 over a “mental health issue” in which Crimo threatened to kill members of his family, Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force said in a news briefing.

How many times has this been said, shooter had prior run-ins with the police?

Here, the shooter had two previous encounters with police in Highland Park, with the most recent being in September 2019 over a “mental health issue” in which he threatened to kill everyone, and situation being handled by mental health, local authorities having no knowledge of any firearms owned at the time though he subsequently purchased firearms in 2020 and 2021. State police said he didn’t have a Firearm Owners ID Card, required for Illinois residents to possess a firearm or ammunition, so there was nothing to “review” or “revoke” on their end, as though that would have made a big difference, saying “We didn’t know, you know, a few months later, something else would happen.” Why, the shooter had time on his hands, to threaten to kill in 2019 and then in 2022 shoot, kill, wound many at the 4th of July parade in Illinois, to flee to neighboring State of Wisconsin, and back again to Illinois before being arrested.

The question that needs to be asked and answered is what did what did the FBI know and when did they know it. How’s the FBI figure in all of this? It seems that they almost always do.
