A Polish Air Force F-16 fighter jet, part of the elite Tiger Demo aerobatic team, crashed during rehearsals for the Radom Air Show, killing the pilot instantly, the country’s military has confirmed.
The incident occurred at Radom Air Base, around 100km south of Warsaw, at 7:25pm local time (5:25pm GMT) on Thursday, while the pilot was performing a high-speed barrel roll maneuver.
Videos filmed by shocked spectators from different angles show the F-16 descending sharply at full afterburner before striking the runway, failing to complete the maneuver. The impact sent a fireball and thick smoke into the sky as the burning jet slid along the runway, with no sign that the pilot attempted to eject.

Emergency crews rushed to the site, but the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz called the incident “a great loss for the Air Force and the entire Polish Army,” extending condolences to the pilot’s family.
