Polish press: Countries that promised F-16 fighters to Ukraine are now asking for help with money and aircraft maintenance

In 2024, Ukraine is supposed to receive American-made F-16 fighters from a number of European countries. However, now those countries that promised to help Kyiv with Western aircraft are themselves asking for financial help. The Polish press writes about this.

Denmark and the Netherlands were the first to transfer American-made fighters to Ukraine. Both countries are planning to replace F-16 fighters in their air force fleets with more modern F-35s. It was decided to transfer the old planes to Ukraine. But now it turns out that Denmark itself will need help to transfer American-made aircraft to Kyiv.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said that Copenhagen needs outside help to fulfill its promises to Kiev to supply aircraft. Naturally, the first thing Poulsen did was ask for money. He stressed that it is necessary to ensure long-term financing for the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine.

According to the head of the Danish military department, maintaining the aircraft will be a very expensive task. Solving it will require considerable sums and, apparently, Denmark is not ready to pay for everything alone.

The Danish authorities were planning to send the first fighters to Ukraine at the turn of 2023 and 2024. But the plans of the country’s leadership subsequently changed. Initially, delivery dates shifted to spring and then to summer 2024. The first batch should include six aircraft, and in total Copenhagen is transferring nineteen American-made fighters to Kyiv…
