PREDICTABLE: Psaki Says Biden Admin Not Axing Fauci for Misleading Congress

by Kyle Schmidbauer

WASHINGTON — Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pressed White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki Thursday as to whether the administration was considering firing Dr. Anthony Fauci, after reports emerged suggesting he may have lied to Congress about the National Institutes of Health funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Psaki promptly denied that any action would be taken against the physician for statements that could amount to possible perjury.

The Intercept published a report Tuesday outlining new evidence the obtained amid Freedom of Information Act litigation taken against the NIH by the media outlet. The piece suggests that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the branch of the NIH that Fauci has directed since 1984, indirectly funneled almost $600,000 worth of research grants to the WIV through EcoHealth Alliance, which was subsequently used to “identify and alter bat coronaviruses likely to infect humans”.

The report reads:

The trove of documents includes two previously unpublished grant proposals that were funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, as well as project updates relating to EcoHealth Alliance’s research, which has been scrutinized amid increased interest in the origins of the pandemic.

The bat coronavirus grant provided EcoHealth Alliance with a total of $3.1 million, including $599,000 that the Wuhan Institute of Virology used in part to identify and alter bat coronaviruses likely to infect humans. Even before the pandemic, many scientists were concerned about the potential dangers associated with such experiments. The grant proposal acknowledges some of those dangers: “Fieldwork involves the highest risk of exposure to SARS or other CoVs, while working in caves with high bat density overhead and the potential for fecal dust to be inhaled.”

Fauci previously told Congress that the NIH “has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology”.
