An SUV collided with a pregnant horse that suddenly ran across a road in Myerstown, Pennsylvania, early Friday morning, authorities reported.
Galen Nye, the 47-year-old Subaru Forester driver, did not have enough time to avoid the collision that ultimately proved fatal to the horse, according to records provided by Pennsylvania State Police (PSP).
Nye managed to park his car in a parking lot some 150 feet from the accident. The response crew quickly realized that the stricken horse was pregnant and the Keystone Fire Company managed to deliver the foal on the crash site.
The newborn was handed over to the property owner. The Subaru Forester driver only had minor injuries from the collision with the horse and did not require hospitalization.
