What to know two weeks into the U.S. and Israel’s war with Iran

  • President Trump said late Friday that Iran is “totally defeated and wants a deal” but not one he “would accept.”
  • The statement came shortly after Mr. Trump announced that the U.S. had bombed Kharg Island, a vital oil hub that serves as Iran’s main oil export terminal. U.S. Central Command said Saturday morning that the U.S. had struck 90 military targets on the island, but preserved its oil infrastructure.
  • Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth says Iran’s missile and drone launches have been reduced sharply, and its new supreme leader is “wounded and likely disfigured.” Later, Vice President JD Vance told reporters, “We know that he’s hurt. We don’t know exactly how bad, but we know that he’s hurt.”
  • Iran’s attacks continue to gridlock shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said the U.S. Navy could start escorting tankers through the strategic waterway as oil prices remain over $100 per barrel.

Hamas calls on Iran to stop “targeting neighboring countries”

Hamas on Saturday called on Iran to refrain from targeting neighboring countries, while affirming Tehran’s right to defend itself against Israel and the United States.
