President Putin signed a decree on simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship for citizens of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

From today, residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia will be able to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner. This follows from a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

All adult citizens of these two former regions of Georgia, who had this status at the time of their recognition of independence by Moscow (August 2008), will be able to obtain Russian citizenship.

To do this, those of them who are in the territory of Abkhazia and South Ossetia must apply to the Russian diplomatic mission. Those who are in Russia can apply to the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
