President Trump Tells UN: We’re Committed to “Protecting Unborn Children” From Abortion

President Donald Trump continued to push back against global abortion advocacy Tuesday in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

Delivering his speech live from the White House, Trump told the UN that America is committed to “protecting unborn children,” the Catholic News Agency reports.

“My administration is advancing religious liberty, opportunity for women, the decriminalization of homosexuality, combating human trafficking, and protecting unborn children,” he said. “America will always be a leader in human rights.”

Trump encouraged the United Nations to “focus on the real problems of the world,” including “human and sex trafficking, religious persecution and the ethnic cleansing of religious minorities.”

His call echoed words from Trump’s ambassador to the UN, Andrew Bremberg, who slammed the international agency in August for “perverting” human rights by advocating for the killing of unborn babies in abortions as part of its coronavirus response plan.

In his remarks to the global agency, Trump also criticized China, which has been facing on-going accusations of religious persecution, forced abortions and forced sterilizations.

According to the report:

Trump also used his address to criticize China for its response to the new coronavirus pandemic, as well as its pollution of oceans and high rate of carbon emissions.

Although Trump criticized China and called on the UN to attend to religious persecution, he did not mention China’s mass imprisonment of an estimated 800,000 to 1.8 million Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in its northwest region.

Since 2017, Trump has defunded the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) of tens of millions of U.S. tax dollars. UNFPA advocates for abortions in countries across the world and has worked with China for decades to implement its oppressive population control policies. Under the pro-abortion Obama administration, U.S. taxpayers gave more than $300 million to UNFPA.

Trump’s speech and the defunding action are part of a larger push by the United States against the UN’s abortion advocacy and for the rights of unborn babies.

Last week, the United States voted against the UN’s “Comprehensive and Coordinated Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic” resolution because it included language that tries to pass off the killing of unborn babies in abortions as “health care.”

In 2019, Trump also included unborn babies in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

“Americans will… never tire of defending innocent life,” he said at the time. “We are aware that many United Nations projects have attempted to assert a global right to taxpayer-funded abortion on demand — right up until the moment of delivery. Global bureaucrats have absolutely no business attacking the sovereignty of nations that wish to protect innocent life. Like many nations here today, we in America believe that every child born and unborn is a sacred gift from God.”
