Rep. Donalds Fires Back at Waters: ‘We Are a Constitutional Republic — Filibuster Protects That’

On Monday, Congressman Byron Donalds appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” and fired back at Rep. Maxine Waters for her harsh criticisms of Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.

On Sunday, Waters appeared on MSNBC and declared that Manchin and Sinema do not “care” about black people because they are unwilling to ditch the filibuster in order to pass the Democrats’ voting legislation.

Donalds argued that the United States is not a “pure democracy” but rather a “constitutional republic” and noted that the “filibuster is one of the mechanisms that helps to maintain the republic.”

“I just think it is completely outrageous,” he explained. “It is not based on facts. The reality is what she and what the Democrats want to pass by breaking the filibuster, something by the way that they have defended every single year that the Senate has been in existence up until right now, what they want to do is just basically have the federal government take over all elections in the United States.”…
