Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) announced that Muslims will be exempt from curfews in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center.

The cities are under siege in the aftermath of an officer-involved shooting of a black motorist.

“My office reached out to the Minneapolis Mayor and Governor’s offices to urge them to include an exemption to the curfew this evening for travel to and from Ramadan activities/prayer services,” the Muslim congresswoman tweeted.

Gov. Tim Walz said the curfew is in effect for Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey and Dakota coutnies.

“During the curfew, no one may travel on Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey, and Dakota County streets or public places, except for first responders, members of the media, people going back and forth to work, individuals seeking emergency care or fleeing danger, people traveling to or from religious services, and people experiencing homelessness,” the governor wrote.
