If you are not a United States citizen, you cannot directly or indirectly give money to political campaigns in this country.
Enter Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss octogenarian billionaire.
Wyss is believed to have donated more than $250 million to Democrat campaigns since 2016, including Joe Biden.
It’s Illegal
I have railed consistently against PACs and outside donations since writing about politics.
My opinion is that for local and state elections, only money from those communities should be permitted to be donated to candidates.
So, how can a Swiss billionaire give money to political campaigns in the United States?
These people use nonprofits and PACs to funnel money to politicians to push their agenda, which is 100 percent illegal.
The Americans for Public Trust think tank has been looking at Wyss and it believes he has funneled more than $253 to Democrat candidates, which includes about $17 million to Joe Biden and about $3 million to Georgia Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, and that is just since 2016.
Executive Director Caitlin Sutherland stated, “The foreign dark money revolving door is at it again, this time with their eyes set on the midterms.
“Wyss has already funneled hundreds of millions through his nonprofits to liberal groups that influence our elections, and now those very same groups are poised to engage in every policy and political fight all the way until November.”
