Russian scientists have developed a new heat-resistant coating for aviation and rocket engines, allowing to protect elements of power plants from high temperatures. This is stated in a message from the press service of Samara University named after Korolev.
Scientists from Samara have invented a special plasma coating to protect elements of aircraft and rocket engines from high temperatures. To date, an experimental sample of this coating has been manufactured and is undergoing extensive testing. As stated at the institute, testing is designed for six months. It is planned that the new coating will make it possible to increase the service life of engine hot section parts by two to three times.
During the research, a coating technology was developed and the first experimental sample of a nanostructured thermal barrier coating was manufactured to protect engine elements from the effects of extremely high operating temperatures.
