A Russian commander ‘punishes’ soldiers for not following orders by taping them to trees naked in winter and forcing them to eat snow. This is similar to the term ‘decimate’ used during Roman times, to kill one of out ten soldiers to ‘motivate’ the remaining to fight harder.
