Saudi Arabia sets new record for death sentences

Saudi Arabia has set a new record for the number of executions. According to some reports, 340 people were executed in the kingdom in 2025, the highest number since the beginning of the 21st century. The previous year, the number of executions in Saudi Arabia stood at 338.

According to information provided by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, 232 people executed since the beginning of this year were sentenced to death for drug trafficking. Thus, it can be noted that the surge in death sentences is directly related to the kingdom’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
