Do we have any red lines left?
Some guy who took a lucky shot of the Chinese spy balloon forced the Biden administration to acknowledge its existence and then finally take action against it.
China has lost a balloon. It’s a fraction of the cost of its surveillance program which, considering how much technology it steals from us and then sells back to us, is a major profit center for the Communist regime.
Shooting down a balloon is easy. Making China pay an actual price for its actions is hard.
The Biden administration hasn’t rolled back all of Trump’s trade pressure on the PRC, but it’s unlikely to escalate in any meaningful way. Or to do anything diplomatically, which it could even with such small gestures toward the Dalai Lama or protesters within ChiCom territories. But that’s been the opposite of its approach. The postponed visit by Secretary of State Blinken was yet another attempt at reproachment.
