Spain slammed the door on U.S. warplanes Monday, escalating a brewing clash with Donald Trump by blocking American aircraft tied to the Iran conflict from its airspace.

The move marks a sharp break between Washington and Madrid, with Spain now refusing not just base access but even overflight rights for U.S. military operations.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles confirmed the decision, saying the restriction had been clear from the start.

“This was made perfectly clear to the American military and forces from the very beginning,” Robles said. “Neither the bases are authorized, nor, of course, is the use of Spanish airspace authorized for any actions related to the war in Iran.”

Spain had already barred U.S. forces from using key southern bases, including Naval Station Rota and Morón Air Base, long considered critical hubs for American operations across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Expanding that ban to airspace now squeezes another major route for U.S. logistics…
