Strombolian activity at the North Crater area of Stromboli volcano, Italy resulted in lava overflow on October 8, following intensifying spattering activity registered at 16:50 UTC when a new lava flow appeared on Sciara del Fuoco.

An increase in the average width of volcanic quakes was observed starting at approximately 16:33 UTC, rising from a medium to a high level.

According to INGV, the lava flow gradually depleted in the early hours of October 9, as reported at 09:35 UTC today. However, moderate strombolian activity persists in the North crater area, and lava overflow has resumed.

From a seismic perspective, since the early hours of October 9, the average magnitude of volcanic tremors has shown a steady, gradual increase, reaching a very high level for about an hour. There are no notable changes in the frequency of explosion quakes.

GNSS and clinometric monitoring data have shown no significant changes over the last 24 hours.

The last eruption at Stromboli occurred on October 6, 2024, with high energy explosion followed by lava flow:

Stromboli — also known as the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean” — is a 924 m (3 031 feet) high volcano well known for the frequent mild explosive activity that has characterized its eruptions throughout much of historical time…
