From the outset, all the evidence suggested that COVID-19 was deadly to the old and infirm, and a bad flu for everybody else.
Focused protection for the vulnerable and developing a vaccine to alleviate the burden on them were policies that made the most sense. And given that only a small fraction of the population was especially vulnerable, when the vaccine was rushed out, it made sense to give it–even without long-term testing–to those at high risk of death.
Of course, that’s not what happened. The risks were exaggerated, and the “protection” measures were mostly useless, and when the vaccine–not a standard vaccine, but a novel mRNA vaccine that was untested–the government tried to force everyone to take it…
