There’s an old saying about setting the fox to guard the henhouse, which I think applies here.
A thought experiment: Imagine you’re tasked with setting up your nation’s immigration screening system. When you start to look into staffing that system, doesn’t it seem logical that you would assign this task, of deciding who should and shouldn’t enter the country, to people who are at least citizens, preferably people who were born in the country?
