Swedish defense industry concern SAAB has unveiled its new anti-drone interceptor munition, Nimbrix. It is expected to fill a niche between artillery и missile anti-aircraft systems.
According to the Svenska Dagbladet publication, the new munition is inexpensive to produce and therefore an affordable means of destruction. The length of Nimbrix is less than a meter, and the assembly of the new munition – a UAV interceptor – is expected to begin in the buyer countries.
Nimbrix is equipped with an infrared seeker capable of tracking both individual drones, and swarms drones. The devices are destroyed by a cloud of fragments that forms after the detonation of the warhead. It is stated that the maximum range of the interceptor is five kilometers. The missile operates on the principle of “fire and forget” – that is, after launch, it finds the target itself and hits it without the operator’s participation…
